Through the expertise and support of SincoS, a trusted automation provider, SincoS emerges as a key player in revolutionizing tobacco processing operations, ensuring a streamlined and sustainable approach to production.

Introduction

The global tobacco industry is continuously evolving, and manufacturers are constantly seeking ways to optimize their processes to meet increasing demands while maintaining high-quality standards. Recognizing the importance of automation, BAT Bangladesh, a prominent player in the industry, sought an all-encompassing automation solution to enhance its manufacturing operations. With the expertise of Sincos, a leading automation provider renowned for its industrial automation solutions, robotics expertise, and LV/MV switchgear solutions, BAT Bangladesh embarked on a transformative journey to revolutionize its tobacco processing operations.

Background

BAT Bangladesh’s Green Leaf Tobacco Processing Plant is a key facility responsible for the production of high-quality tobacco products. In order to optimize its manufacturing processes, improve efficiency, and ensure consistent product quality, BAT Bangladesh sought the expertise of SincoS.

Scope of Work

The project encompassed a wide range of crucial components, including design, development, hardware supply, panel fabrication, installation programming, commissioning, and training. As a paid project, SincoS provided its expertise and support to BAT Bangladesh to achieve two significant milestones:

  1. Full factory control through SCADA Tablet PCs or a central SCADA system,
  2. Upgrading and converting the control systems of existing machines.

Design and Development:

SincoS, leveraging its expertise in automation solutions, collaborated closely with BAT Bangladesh’s engineering team in conducting a meticulous analysis of the tobacco processing operations. SincoS then developed a customized automation system tailored to BAT Bangladesh’s specific requirements. This approach ensured seamless integration of the automation solution into their production line, minimizing disruption to ongoing processes. The design and development phase involved identifying key areas for improvement, establishing performance metrics, and formulating a comprehensive plan to achieve the desired outcomes.

Hardware Supply and Panel Fabrication:

As part of the project, SincoS procured state-of-the-art automation equipment to support the smooth implementation of the automation solution. Carefully selected hardware components were housed in the plant’s control panels, providing a centralized control system for efficient monitoring and management. The panel fabrication process adhered to industry standards, ensuring optimal performance and reliability.

Installation Programming and Commissioning:

SincoS’ team of skilled technicians and engineers took charge of the installation programming and commissioning phase. They seamlessly integrated the automation system with the existing machinery and control systems at BAT Bangladesh’s Green Leaf Tobacco Processing Plant. Rigorous testing and quality assurance measures were implemented to ensure the system’s reliability, compatibility, and compliance with industry regulations. This phase also involved comprehensive training sessions for the plant’s operators and technicians, equipping them with the necessary skills to effectively operate and maintain the automation system.

Central SCADA System:

At the heart of the automation solution was the provision of a comprehensive Central SCADA system by Sincos. This advanced system offered a holistic view of the entire factory’s operations, empowering operators to monitor real-time process parameters, machinery status, and production metrics from a centralized control center. In addition, tablet PCs equipped with SCADA software were deployed, providing mobile access to critical information, enhancing flexibility, and aiding decision-making. The Central SCADA system played a pivotal role in enabling swift response to production variations, identifying bottlenecks, and facilitating preventive maintenance activities.

Upgrading Existing Control Systems:

BAT Bangladesh’s legacy machinery required upgrading and conversion to ensure seamless integration into the overarching automation framework. Sincos’ team of experts diligently worked on upgrading the control systems, implementing standardized protocols, and establishing improved communication channels across the production line. This step was crucial to ensure a cohesive and synchronized operation of the entire manufacturing process, from raw material intake to the final product stage.

Benefits and Results

The successful implementation of the Green Leaf Tobacco Processing Plant Automation and Central SCADA system, with the support of Sincos, has yielded significant benefits for BAT Bangladesh:
